Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were contacted by a man who found a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the liquid was likely human blood.

"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.

Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.

An important political figure said the attack made him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
