The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in employing video review systems.
Replay systems will be launched at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.
Athletes are granted the option to challenge certain decisions from the official, following the practice currently in use at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
The new system is slated for use on the main stadium and the number one court for the duration of the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles contests.
This development follows just a season following the All England Club introduced electronic line calling, which brought an end to the 147-year role of line officials.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the umpire to re-examine specific situations, such as:
- Whether a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- If a ball made contact with an rival's racket or person during play.
- Potential hindrance end of a point.
Importantly, there is an unlimited number on the number of reviews a competitor can ask for.
A Recent Example
A recent case occurred in a recent tournament last week, where a top player used the video challenge against his opponent.
The British player admitted it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and determined Draper was guilty of hindrance, awarding the point to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at all of its events.
Other Changes
A further change at The Championships 2025 involves the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.
This solves instances where spectators have sometimes been uncertain whether a shot was in or out.
Finally, with precisely a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
